With EXS Host, service providers can offer differentiated, custom solutions in a compact, easy to install package.
High reliability. EXS Host supports redundancy and availability features fully consistent with the high standard set by the overall EXS environment. A "soft start" controller provides hot host insertion/removal. Dual EXS Hosts can be deployed in an EXS environment and connected via Ethernet for host redundancy in a single platform, or distributed across multiple nodes. Audible alarming and temperature monitoring are provided. These features protect against major hardware, software and power failures.
Outstanding performance. EXS Host incorporates a 233MHz CPU, 64MB of SDRAM, 4 GB of EIDE mass storage and two 100B/10B autodetect MB Ethernet ports on a single card in standard EXS form factor. A choice of Ultra SCSI and Ultra Wide SCSI interfaces are packaged on a single EXS form factor I/O card. These components combine to offer very robust functionality and performance in executing both single and multiple applications.
Multihost flexibility. EXS Host supports the ability to configure multiple hosts on a single logical switch. This feature lets carriers offer multiple services, integrated in a single network infrastructure solution.
Enhanced OAM&P. In combination with Excel's EXS Manage application package, EXS Host allows service providers to implement a switch-resident operations, administration, maintenance and provisioning (OAM&P) environment rapidly and economically. The result is the ability to configure, monitor and maintain all resources in a truly integrated, multi-service environment.
Upgradability. All major elements of the system can be expanded and upgraded to enhance hosting capabilities. EXS Host incorporates an upgradable flash BIOS. It offers a migration path to 400Mhz processor and to 256 MB of SDRAM. Hard drives are removable to facilitate servicing, and for upgrades to over 12 GB.
Space and cost conservation. Because EXS Host provides all the services of a fully functional host in a single EXS chassis plane, the space and costs associated with an external host can be eliminated, within a minimum of EXS chassis space. Because it is compatible with EXS form factors and implemented in a manner similar to EXS digital network interfaces (function card and associated I/O card), it can be configured rapidly and economically.
